Dress Code

Cowboys

Shades of pink is the palette and guest aesthetic. Think Lonesome Dove meets Barbie, but no "blue" jeans. Denim is dandy, but keep it beige, baby. Khaki is the new black. Muted browns in honor of the last name I'm tossing into the wind with my bouquet. Florals (and other mostly pink patterns) for autumn? Groundbreaking. As long as you're in warm hues, you're golden, and by golden, I mean rose gold. Obviously. Need visuals? I gotchu.

Cowgirls

Shades of pink is the palette and guest aesthetic. Think Regina George on Wednesday meets Urban Cowboy. Yes to boots. Yes to hats. No to denim. Leave your jeans at home, but bring the bellbottoms. It's Kacey Musgraves at the rodeo. Give me spurs and sparkles. Silk and leather. If Anne of Green Gables collaborated with Mattel, would she wear the Chanel boots? Inspiration incoming:

TRAVEL

Catch a flight.

Long road trips not for you? There are two "nearby" airpots you can fly into to get to Marfa.

Flying into the Midland/Oddessa Airport (MAF) will mean you will have to rent a car and drive a little under three hours to get to Marfa.

If Midland isn't your scene, you can also fly into the airport in Hobbs, New Mexico (HOB) (booking services may call it Hobbs, Texas, but trust me, you're in New Mexico.)

In my experience, the flight into Hobbs is cheaper than the flight into Midland, but flying into Hobbs will stick you with an extra thirty minutes of driving, so pick your poison.

Kick off your boots.

Find the Marfa Lights.

The Marfa Mystery Lights Viewing Area can be found 10 miles east of Marfa on Highway 90. Sean and I had the best luck seeing the lights later in the night. We recommend heading out there between 10 and 11 p.m.

Enjoy some art.

Note: All opening hours and days are suggestions. Marfa time is a real thing, so 11 a.m. might be 1 p.m. Things move slower out here, y'all, and sometimes not at all...

Break a sweat.

Want to get a workout in? Sean and I highly recommend the fitness classes over at Big Sky Marfa. The instructors could have their own Netflix stand-up special.
105 E Oak Street (in the alley behind the Wrong Store)

Note: Classes may not take place in the studio space, so pay attention to where the class meets.

Take a hike.

Big Bend National Park isn't a far from Marfa, so if you're planning on hanging around in West Texas, we highly recommend making the drive.

See some stars.

If you have time, the McDonald Observatory is a must-see. Reservations aren't open yet for October, but these are tickets you need to get in advance. Plan ahead, and you won't be sorry.

Explore a ghost town.

Sean and I visited Terlingua the last time we were in Marfa and enjoyed the scenery. It's on the way to Big Bend and makes for some light to medium walking. There's a little restaurant and gift shop that were fun to explore, but be warned–there are no real bathrooms, only porta potties.

Get your cards read.

Ocotillo Botanica offers a variety of spiritual services that I highly recommend. The shop is cute, and the energy is just right.

FAQs

what is against the dress code?

For Men:
  • Blue Jeans
  • Black Jeans
  • Shirts that are not predominantly pink, brown, tan, or mauve. White shirts are okay, but we would prefer if they were layered under one of the previously mentioned colors. Do not make the color white the star of your show.

  • For Women:
  • White dresses, skirts, pants, or jackets. I'm totally fine with white boots, purses, hats, or other accessories. If your dress, skirt, shirt, etc. has some white on it, I'm not going to bat an eye--just don't make white your primary color.
  • Blue Jeans
  • Black Jeans
  • Outfits that are not predominantly pink, brown, tan, or mauve.
Note: I would not recommend stiletto heels or open-toed shoes. Sticker plants are very common in this area, and I wouldn't recommend anyone taking off their shoes.

  • Still have questions? Contact Sean or me, and we can help you out.

are children invited to the wedding?

No. As much as we love your little ones, we kindly ask that you find a sitter and leave them at home.

    is there parking available on-site?

Yes, you can find street parking for the ceremony and reception. Also, Marfa is a small town and highly walkable, so cycle, drive, or walk. Ride share apps may work, but I wouldn't bank on it. Again, it's a small town.

can I take pictures during the ceremony?

We ask that you please turn off your cellphones & cameras during the ceremony. Don't worry, we have hired a photographer and will have a lot of photos to share with you after the wedding.

    is the ceremony outdoors?

No, the ceremony and reception will be held indoors. However, we will have an outdoor cocktail hour before the wedding. October in Marfa is balmy in our experience. Think 65 and sunny during the day, but temperatures do drop at night. A light jacket would serve you well if you run cold.

what is there to do in marfa?

More than you would expect! The town is home to an eclectic mix of artisan shops, restaurants, galleries, and art installations. Big Bend National Park is a beautiful, two-hour drive away, and there's even a Ghost Town to explore. We've put together a list of places to explore and potential places to stay on our Travel page.
